Americans with Disabilities Act & Title VI of the Civil Rights Act
The City of Iowa City is committed to operating its programs and services without regard to race, color, and national origin in accordance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. in addition, the City is committed to providing access for all of its residents, including those with disabilities, in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
The City Manager's Office has been designated to handle questions, concerns, complaints, requests for accommodation, or requests for additional information regarding Title VI or the ADA, or inquiries regarding accessibility:

ADA Self-Evaluation & Transition Plan
The ADA Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan is intended to provide a framework for the continuous improvement of City programs and facilities for people with disabilities. The Self-Evaluation focuses on barriers to access for City programs and services and the Transition Plan identifies structural or architectural ADA compliance issues.

Parks & Playground Accessibility
New playgrounds and playground improvements are designed to provide recreational opportunities for all ages and abilities. A variety of features are pursued across the City’s park network to enhance inclusivity of all types of disabilities, such as flat transfer points, ramp access, tactical play features, molded/belted swings, and large open space for active or quiet play.
Iowa City is committed to continual improvement of accessibility in our parks, in accordance with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act and related guidelines. Each year, accessibility improvements are budgeted for City parks and/or trails, with a goal to achieve maximum ADA compliance for each location.
Brief accessibility notes are provided on each park’s webpage. For further information on a specific park’s accessibility features or to request a reasonable modification, please call the Director of Parks & Recreation at 319-356-5104.
